That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life...

Changes to my Blog

I started my blog without much of an idea of where it would go, or what it would be about.  It's definitely gone through some changes since it started!  Initially, I wrote things about me, my life, my work, and day-to-day happenings.  As time went on I would say my blog became more and more "Christian" in it's focus.  I'm not a naturally outgoing person, so at first I was hesitant to put much about my faith on my blog.  But, there's a funny thing that happens when you're a Christian. Sometimes you just can't help speaking about how Christ is working in your life.  He's always there, caring for me, providing for me, guiding me, and encouraging me. If you've been reading my blog since I started it you probably noticed that it got more and more "spiritual" as time went on.  I also realized that blogging could be a great tool to reach others for Christ, and to encourage fellow Christians.

So, I decided that it was time to change some things on my blog to better reflect it's content.  I'll likely still write about day to day happenings; like my accident last week.  But, I also want people to know when they visit my blog they're going to find a lot on it about the Bible, Christianity, and God.  I am a Christian, and this is a Christian blog.

A lot of the theological things I write about are often for myself.  The Christian life is a constant journey of growth and maturity.  None of us have arrived.  Often I will write about a conviction or belief that I have, because I find it inspires me to do more study and that helps my growth.  Sometimes I'll write about controversial things.  I don't claim to have all the answers, but I know God's Word does. I think it's important to discuss so-called "controversial" issues. It's all part of our growth as Christians.  If we always avoid the hard stuff we'll never get beyond the "milk" and into the "meat" (Hebrews 5:12).  Writing my thoughts down helps me to remember what I've learned from the Scriptures, and strengthens my convictions.  You may not agree with all my beliefs.  That's okay.  I don't mind a healthy debate now and then, but if you disagree with me please refrain from name-calling, and other angry or bitter words.  Remember, this is MY blog and these are MY beliefs. My intent is not to anger anyone, but I realize it happens. It's your choice to read what I write. I'm not forcing anyone to believe as I do.

"Seeking to Shine"
I chose to use this name for my blog based on Philippians 2:15-16a. All throughout the Bible we see Christianity compared to light.  We see how as Christians, we are to be shining lights in the midst of a world darkened by sin, corruption, and wickedness.  Philippians 2:16 says we shine by
holding forth the word of life.  That's why the Bible is such an important part of what I write about.  God's Word is the truth.  Jesus Christ is Light and Life!  My desire and prayer is that I would shine the light of Christ to those around me, and that I would also shine His light through my blog.

Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

John 1:4-5, 9

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
